Asch the Bloody ([personal profile] dissonates) wrote2012-07-08 10:21 pm

[Voice]

[Silence.

There's too much of it. It burns into his mind, the echo of emptiness in the corner of it, that ache he can't seem to brush aside no matter how he tries to distract himself. He's tried going outside, he's tried burying himself in that braille stuff Xion gave him, he's tried striking up conversations with his housemates (even the animals), but he runs out of things to say far too quickly and in the back of his mind it's always there. The silence, the echo. The fact that something is missing.

Dead.

And then he's had enough.

The journal's camera is partially obscured when the feed flickers on, and what it does show is his face - eyes, a flash of red hair, his bangs down - just enough to make it seem like he's not quite himself. His voice, too, is softened; it's not as open and friendly as Luke would have been when greeting the village, but it lacks the usual anger or pent-up frustrations of the socially-awkward soldier. If anything it sounds... hushed, weary, tinged with a bit of desperation. He needs this. Whether or not he wants to do it is irrelevant.

It hurts. The silence hurts, more than last time when Luke had been sent home, and he honestly hadn't thought it would.]

Tell me about your day. Tell me a story. Talk about anything. Today I'm listening.

[He might not care. He might not be nice about it. He might not even remember it later. But he'll listen.

He just needs to hear something, so he can forget about the nothing in his head for a while.]

Anything at all? That's an awfully broad topic, isn't it...? For all you know, I could simply want to talk to you about rocks and soil composition for hours.

[HE'S REALLY CONSIDERING IT...]

Yes, in a way. She was kidnapped for her abilities - the very thing that her parents most feared. You see, she was actually one of the few people alive who could see things that were not there, and who had access to the power that would open the doors of Jupiter Lighthouse.

Without her, or someone else like her, the world would have continued to shrink and decline.

She didn't want to go with her captors either. Who would? So she took the first opportunity for rescue and joined a group of...of heroes, who meant to continue the journey to restore the world without turning it into a game for power.

[This is of interest to Saori, who loves sharing stories greatly. The pain in his voice, well its pretty apparent. She's just arrived, but despite all of that her heart goes out to the young man.]

You would like to hear a story? I know many. Tell me, have you ever heard the story of the 'Old Man in a Dream?'

[...Unfortunately yeah, he is.]

Ahahah. Uh. So there's this crazy video game thing that my friends and I were playing, and there were meteors coming at the earth. Right before I got here there was one totally headed straight for me, and I bit into this weird blue apple thing and bam, suddenly I was here.

So I'm still pretty convinced that I died and destroyed the world and this is some weird afterlife thingy.

You should get Miyabi to tell you a story. She's got hundreds of them and I'm no good at it.

[She'd like to help. She just has no idea what to say.]

Nice to meetcha, Asch! [ you can almost hear the smile. Ikki takes another deep breath. ]

Well! Where I'm from, there're people called benders. What they do is bend an element - man-i-pul-ate an element. There're four kinds, just like there're four nations - though I guess we've also got the Republic - but anyway, there are four kinds. Airbenders, from the Air Nomads. Waterbenders, from the Water Tribe. Earthbenders, from the Earth Kingdom. And firebenders, from the Fire Nation!

An airbender is someone - like me! - who can use air to do things. Like, I can make airballs and air scooters and can fly'n stuff if I use the air currents right, 'cept I don't have my glider right now.

Aaaaahhhh~ But what's a goal without a dream?

[He laughs softly, amused by how stern this man was.]

No, you first find a way to give them back their dreams, and then the culture can start to do a little more than just survive.]

I know, I just...[Want to proceed with caution. She knows she can't begin to imagine what he's going through right now. If it was anything like the anguish she'd witnessed from Luke when Asch died...

But that isn't the point. She is here to share a story.]

Have you heard the story of the White Bear?

[Oh. Oops. She'd meant for it to sound more like a legend and less like...well. Her recent past.]

The world is shrinking because Alchemy, the force that keeps it alive, was sealed away a long time ago, to protect its power from the ambitious. [Alex.] There are four lighthouses, one for each element, and when all of them are lit, Alchemy will be unsealed again.

That is what the kidnappers, and the heroes, ultimately want...wanted to do. Unseal Alchemy and start restoring the world.

Then, allow me to share it with you. It is a traditional tale of my homeland.

[She coughs, clearing her voice]

Long ago there lived a man named Jin, and he was friends with the governor of his prefecture, and every week they would go fishing for turtles in a nearby lake.

One evening, Jin had a dream about an old man, who said to him "Sir, the governor wishes to kill me and all my family. Can you help convince him to spare me?" Jin, being a kind man, agreed to try and asked how he could help.

"Please, when he comes to ask you to go out with him today, please decline. Surely that will spare my life."

Sure enough, the next morning the governor came to his house, and Jin feigned ill. The next evening, the old man appeared again to Jin, thanking him profusely. Except the old man wasn't a man this time, he was an ancient turtle. You see, the governor had come to invite Jin to go fishing, but had returned home when his offer had been declined.

As a reward, the turtle shared a secret tale with Jin, who's family lived in honor and wealth for all their days.

Oh, it wasn't my intent to mock you. I personally find those subjects very interesting, but I completely understand why some people might find them boring.
