In my world, everything is composed of six fonons, each a separate element. Light, darkness, water, wind, fire, earth - and form every living being or non-living object. The seventh fonon, Lorelei, is less compatible with the others, and chooses more exclusively what objects or beings have the abilities it can grant.

When making replicas, the scientists who discovered the process figured out a way to use only the seventh fonon to create them. [A pause.] They're not... inherently good or bad. They're like a blank slate, regardless of how old the original was when they were copied.

[That... wasn't as hard to say as he'd thought it would be.]
