[If you should happen to pass by the north bridge closest to the plaza, you might notice a redhead sitting by the riverside, legs folded, with the Key of Lorelei propped up against his shoulder instead of his usual sword. He doesn't look particularly angry or angsty or brooding, just... lost in thought. He's had a lot to consider with Natalia's kidnapping and Luke's lost memories. Among other things.

At some point or other, though, he does make a comment for the journal:]

Is it ever... too late to regret something? Or to apologize?

How do you make up for something that can't be taken back...?

Well then, to address those... no to both of the first ones, but an apology's a selfish thing anyway.

An apology is asking someone to let go of their own negative feelings for you.

That's asking for forgiveness. Apologizing is just saying you're sorry for doing it. It doesn't mean you expect anything to come of it.

And apology comes laced with a request for forgiveness. Or will you sit there and tell me you don't want to be forgiven?

I'm not denying it. But if it's something that deserves an apology, I'd apologize even if I wasn't forgiven.

Isn't it better to show that you feel some remorse, regardless of who it benefits? Why does all of this have to be about what you get out of it?

If anything, an apology can be detrimental. Remorse? What good is remorse if you've done something that cannot be undone? What good is your sympathy; your clearing of conscience once the deeds are complete?

By apologizing, you give them conflict. You inherently demand, or at least ask for, forgiveness. And in doing so, you remove that other person's right to hate you. You remove that other person's knowledge that you will remain their enemy.

So in the end, for your own desire to show remorse, you would arrogantly tear down what they will have made into a coping mechanism?
