Why the hell do you think I've been asking so much?! Do you think I want to die?! Maybe knowing every detail is what will save me, we don't know that!

Just tell me how it is. You don't understand what it means to me.

I'm not telling you what your death was like, Asch. I'm not encouraging this, it's bordering on morbid.

I've known for a long time that I'm going to die. I've spent months and months looking for Van, looking for a cure, trying to do everything I can to stop myself from just disappearing. You want morbid? Try living every day of your life wondering when you'll be too weak to lift your sword anymore, wondering when the fonons of your heart decide they're too degraded to keep it beating.

I want to at least know if I died with some dignity, goddammit...!

If you don't want to deal with it, will you let me talk with him?

[And he does; Guy arrives at the house around fifteen minutes later, Asch's ghost trailing wordlessly after him. Accompanying him are ghosts of both Mary and Van, but as Guy hadn't told Asch about them -and probably won't- the Asch that is alive can't see them. Which was probably for the best.

Guy raps lightly on the door more for the sake of being polite than an actual request to enter, and pushes the door open to Asch's room.]

[And Asch of course is waiting. He sits up a little in bed at the knock, opening his mouth to greet Guy properly, but the words die off at his lips as he spots his own ghost, bloody and pale with several swords impaling his body. His eyes are glazed and there's blood trailing from his mouth.

Asch just stares for a long moment. He doesn't know what to say.]

[Guy leans against the doorframe, expression an odd mixture of resignation, amusement and a hint of exhaustion.]

I won't say "I told you so," but I will say "I implied."

[Asch shifts his gaze towards the blond instead, his bloody ghost remaining in his peripheral. It was disconcerting, but he'd dealt with corpses enough. Never his, of course, but the threat of death had always been there anyway. He didn't bother to address Guy's words; they both knew he was right anyway.]

... So I died in battle.

[Well. It was better than fading away in bed like an old man.]

It's not as bad as it looks.

[Asch's ghost spoke for Guy, who'd elected to remain silent, eyes drifting off to the side as if following something else by sight.]

[Asch can't help but lift a skeptical brow at that, snorting faintly.]

Not that bad? I don't know if I can agree with that.

[He'd never been stabbed like that before, but he'd been wounded plenty of times, and he knew well enough what the bite of a sword felt like.]

[Asch gets a skeptical brow right back, and some scowl while he's at it.]

Are you trying to tell me that I don't know how this feels?

That's not what I-

[Asch has to stop himself there, grimacing at the ridiculousness of arguing with his own dead self. There were plenty of things in the world worth arguing over - whether or not the death in front of him was all that bad was not one of them.]

... Fine, it's not bad. How'd it happen?

Eldrant. [-Guy supplies abruptly, attention still focused elsewhere and sounding a bit far away, even as he answers.

The Asch ghost looks at him, but when Guy doesn't continue he huffs and delivers a more complete answer, detailing the event.]

[Asch rolls his eyes. Guy was being irritatingly huffy about all of this, considering he'd encouraged looking for a way to avoid it.]

So if I don't fall in that stupid trap, I won't die in the ambush. ... But the replica might.

Not if we tell him what to expect. [Guy finally snaps his attention away from whatever he'd been staring at -a conversation between Mary and Van, not that Asch was aware- and addresses Asch directly.]

He's from around the time of the destruction of the miasma, so if we explain to him what happens, you both'll be saved.

[Asch sits up a bit further in bed, crossing his arms over his chest.]

But that would still leave my body's contamination. That one isn't so easily cured.

We might be able to find a cure for that, with the extra time. Or we could find a cure here, or-

[Guy pauses, trailing off as he stares at -seemingly- nothing before starting over, returning his attention to Asch.]

Or...something. Something could happen.

'Something could happen'? That's unusually naive of you.

[Asch looks suspicious.]

What is it, Guy?

[And this is the point where Guy offers Asch a smile that isn't quite fake, but not totally there, either.]

If I don't tell you, then this situation remains blissfully uncomplicated. Let's leave it at that.

...Uncomplicated, huh.

[The suspicion remains, but for once he decides to let Guy win a round. The fake smiles, he can't tolerate. This... this was different.]

...Alright. I'll trust you on this.
