[Asch snorted. Guy was probably hiding something, though with how good the man was at keeping secrets, it was hard to tell. Nearly impossible, actually. Still, he'd find out one way or another. Even if he had to talk to that useless replica.]

[Guy could tell that Asch was getting impatient, and debated throwing him a bone.]

[Despite his irritation, Asch couldn't entirely fight the smile tugging at his lips. He didn't banter with many people, and he was surprised that Guy was the one who'd made the attempt.]

[Guy almost stumbled; was that actually humor he heard in Asch's tone? Then again, why should that be such a shock? He'd never tried to be friendly with Asch before, so perhaps it was his fault that it was surprising. Guy felt a little pang of guilt, but laughed anyways.]

[Well, that was a refreshing surprise. Asch had expected Guy to defend the replica, or ignore the comment if anything. But he'd laughed... it wasn't a reaction he would have predicted if he'd had time to think about it. It seemed this place was out to surprise him left and right.

Still, there were more important things to worry about. Such as something the replica had said, for one.]

[Asch was silent for a long moment, considering this. So the dead didn't stay dead here. But his situation was somewhat different - thanks to the replication process, he knew his body had been degrading before his arrival. He wasn't sure of how much time he'd had left, but it couldn't have been much; he'd already begun to feel it.

Here, though, it was gone. Strange. Did that mean he'd died after all? Or was his condition fixed while he was in this place?]

[Asch fought back a wave of irritation. If Guy was trying to protect him, it only made things worse.]

[Guy pursed his lips and paused in their walk, turning to face Asch with crossed arms.]

I already told you that I didn't speak with you much. Not only that, I'm from the same exact time you were; why would I know anything like that?

[Asch glared at Guy for a moment, then relented and brushed past him, continuing their journey down the river. There was no sense in starting a fight when he was too tired and sore to give it a decent amount of attention.]

Fine, do whatever you want. I don't care, anyway.

[Guy almost sighed with relief, although the very fact that Asch dropped the issue was proof that he was hurting more than he let on. It was good and well that they were almost back to the village; Asch could rest and hopefully forget the question, although the likelihood of that happening was slim.]

[Asch snorted immediately, hands clenching into fists at his sides. And here he'd thought Guy was the intelligent one.]
