Okay, so that was a sort of a rude greeting on my part. Maybe I'm the one who should be trying.

Ah, the old enforced fun shtick. Darn those kinds who go out and try and spread the joy of being personable to other--well--persons.

I don't know about fun, but he's worried about me, so I'm trying to help him out.

Then he's a good friend--that's what good friends do. They worry and they go out and do things about that worry that occasionally lead to awkward hijinks. I should know because I've been a good friend before.

[A breezy laugh.] Don't worry. The socializing thing? It gets easier the more practice you get.

Something like this. But, to be honest? My style is probably more cruel and humiliating than your friend's little ploy, here. Consider yourself fortunate--if I were in his shoes I would have dropped intimate details in the interest of sparking conversation between you and strangers.

Nothing too juicy. Just, like, who they were crushing on the tenth grade or what embarrassing substances they've snort-laughed through their nose.

For a few days, but you'd get over it. They always do. Plus, you'd have pre-broken ice between you and a once-a-stranger, soon-to-be-new-friend. So in the end, it all ends in gratitude.

[A pause.] Or, maybe, hair-pulling.

I'm not so juvenile. [And Asch completely misses the point, as usual.]

Everyone gets juvenile, now and again.
