Huh. Well, either way, you don't want to make it obvious that you were put up to this. Next time, try giving less reasons as to why you're introducing yourself, or lie a little to make it seem like you're actually interested.

Saying things like "I want to meet new people because it'd be better for me" isn't really dishonesty. It's a lie since it's not the real reason you're doing it, but at the same time, you're stating a fact and giving yourself more of a reason to be interested.
