[It's early afternoon. The journal flies open and turns on abruptly in mid-air, a blast of resonating energy having blown it away from where it had been placed. As it flies, a few flashes of red, white, and black are visible, and when it lands, Asch and Luke are in the distance, swords clashing, the rec center just beyond where they're fighting. Occasionally they'll exchange commentary, but none of it seems to filter in.

The resonating noise continues, though, and as their swords clash one more time, it seems to grow even louder than before, until finally one shout rings clear-]

Pull back you dre-

[And before he can even finish, an explosion of light flares between them, and two identical cries of alarm are the only sound that filters through that eerie resonance. The light spreads, flaring outwards and sending the journal flying backwards, cutting off the feed.

The light is probably visible to most of the village as a single beam of light flying up towards the barrier and disappearing from sight. And there is a nice big crater in the forest just south of the rec center, where pretty much anything in that location - trees, bushes, grass, whatever - has... pretty much been decimated. A journal bearing Asch's name on the cover is sitting in the grass just outside of the crater, looking pretty ripped up and charred. The scene overall probably looks pretty dooming, especially since neither of the redheads are anywhere to be found.

[ooc: most responses will come from Luke, though Asch will chime in as well when he can!]

[And it just now occurs to Luke that he dropped his own sword, too. He lets out a groan and shuts his eyes. Man...]

Mine's gone, too.

[Slowly, he starts to straighten out, though he lets out a hiss once he gets to his knees.]

[Asch doesn't bother responding- he's too busy leaning back just enough to dunk Luke's head under the water for a few moments. Ungrateful whelp, seriously. Who the hell does he think he is?]

[And all that follows is a short, cut off shriek of sorts before a lot of splashing and failed attempts at swimming. ASCH WHAT ARE YOU DOING ARE YOU TRYING TO DROWN HIM AGAIN OH GOD OH GOD]

[Asch curses again, under his breath this time, and smacks his fist against the sand. Great, just great, now they're stuck in the middle of nowhere and they're unarmed. It's true that he still has his fonic artes, but he'd much rather take any kind of wildlife down with a blade. Easier to work with when he's surprised.]

...We need to get back.

Luke?!

[What. What is going on?! Suddenly Luke was talking, then he was cut off and--...splash?

All Miyabi can see is Luke going under, and Asch pushing him down. She nearly jumps out of her skin, a startled yelp escaping her lips. WHAT THE HELL WAS ASCH DOING?! Miyabi grips her journal, eyes wide with horror and rising fury. This time, though, she doesn't hold back.]

ASCH, I WILL KILL YOU WHEN I FIND YOU!

[Now to attempt to stand. Luke presses one hand against his back as he does so, and he asks through clenched teeth:]

How? Walking? [Luke would rather camp out for the night or something to recover, even knowing he fails at it. Not to mention he's never really been to the ocean before, so he doesn't actually know which way the village is.]

[Asch scowls, kicking a bit to get Luke back up to the surface. It was just for a second or two, geez.]

Maybe I just won't let you find me, then. [You could show a little sympathy, Luke's the one being an ingrate.]

[And once Luke comes back up, he immediately clings to Asch's neck and shoulders and just breathes with wide eyes while the journal floats open beside him. Maybe once he learned to swim it wouldn't be so bad, but now? Fffffuck this, get him out of the ocean please.

... Though at least Asch's isn't really trying to kill him. Good to know.]

Don't underestimate me.

[Remember the last time you did that? You fell on you ass, man. 8| But she'll plot killing you later. Right now, she's worried about you both, especially Luke since he almost drowned again. Stupid Asch.]

Just get back safely. [She pauses, then frowns, then pouts.] So I can hit you for worrying me so much.

You're not very good at inspiring people, you know. [He's getting more irritated by the moment, and the desire to actually get back to the village? Yeah, that's not getting any better either.

Rather sullen about it all, he ducks his head into the water a bit, mouth submerged, breathing through his nose. He doesn't really feel like talking to Miyabi anymore, or at least not while swimming. This is tiring enough as it is.]

Don't be stupid. Walking would take days, and we don't have the supplies. There's supposed to be a teleporter. [He lifts a hand to point towards the small stone fort in the distance.] It was installed over there.

[Finally Luke straightens out, and he lets out a sigh, then a wince as his wings give a painful twitch. Ow, he landed on those too, didn't he... No wonder his limbs tingled unpleasantly.

He looks at the fort when Asch gestures to it, blinks, then looks at him to ask something that's probably common knowledge before he even realizes it:] Really? When'd we get a teleporter to the ocean?

[Luke gives Asch a long glance, and... yeah, he can tell that he's done talking. So instead of just clinging to him like some kind of leech, Luke shifts so that he's holding on with one arm again, reaching back to grab the journal to talk to Miyabi instead.]

Miyabi, Asch saved my life. Don't really hit him, okay?

It was announced a few months ago. [He hadn't paid much attention to it at the time, but with the beach being such a focus of attention for the villagers these days, it being so new to everyone, it was only a matter of time before the memory of its mention became important.

Pursing his lips, he pushes slightly against the ground to test his strength, then halts as he feels his muscles protest. Not yet, then. Instead he reaches out to retrieve Luke's journal, flipping through it.]

Sounds like we didn't kill anyone with that hyperresonance. Good.

[Probably using too casual a tone there, but oh well.]

Oh...

[It figures that Asch wasn't ready to stand yet - he did all of the work. Luke would flop back down beside him if he felt like working to stand up again, and with everything aching so much, he's not really looking forward to that.

Once Asch says that last part, though, Luke takes a step back in shock, only to grimace. It helps with what he protests, though.]

Don't say it like that! If we killed anyone, we...

[Oh so it's that one...hyperresonance...thing that I still don't exactly get uh]

Hhht.

Tell them that whatever they did, it was incredibly foolish.

[Asch's words sting for more reasons that he probably intended, and Miyabi bites her lip so hard she can faintly taste blood. She feels both angry and hurt, taking some time to simmer down. She was just worried! Miyabi got back two of her best friends, and then she thought she lost another two! Of course she was angry! They were careless, and scared her half to death.

For a moment, she just wants to snap at Luke, too, but...no. No, he's just trying to help. So after a few minutes of breathing, she shuts her eyes and mumbles in a clipped voice.]

...Fine. Just come back safely.

We will.

[Though he miiight not inform her immediately once they've reach shore, considering how glad they'll both be once they get there. He'll still give his best little smile and not quite shut the journal, but keep his thumb against the middle of the book to keep it partially open as they swim. They do talk to each other, but whatever they're saying is filtered out by the sound of waves and the fact that the book is barely open in the first place.]

[---Oh hey, he really did get a response. And he got an answer for the first question he would've asked, too. Good. Sighing now.]

... Good to know. [... Wait, is that the ocean? What--] What the hell happened?

We didn't. You shouldn't dwell on what-ifs. [He'd never had time for that sort of thing back home, and god had it ever been tempting sometimes. What if he'd never been replicated, what if he'd been rescued, what if he'd just called to his family-

You can waste your life away with thoughts like that.]

... Right. [Figures that Asch was right about these things. Still... Luke feels this isn't really a matter they should treat lightly. If they were a little closer to the village... He has to wonder if the rec center is still standing.

And now he's tired of standing, so he'll fall heavily to his knees, take a moment to wince and bear the pain, then look up at Asch.]

[Now, how to explain this simply? It took Luke forever to actually get what hyperresonance actually was, and he still doesn't really understand it. How do you tell someone who's never heard of it before?]

We, uh... screwed up. [He has to cough a little - that's what happens when you swallow sea water and nearly drown.] With our power.

... I see. [... No, no he doesn't. But he's got a feeling he wouldn't understand anyway, especially since it involved teleporting and explosions, so he'll just save himself and Luke a headache by not asking further. For now, anyway.] Well, uh ... Be careful on your way back then, I guess.

And...how did you do that?

[As if that sound and those yells weren't bad enough, that pillar of light is enough to really freak Emil out, and he's out the door and running in its direction almost as soon as it happens.]

Luke! Asch! What's going on?
